3.5 stars. Romance between a human Lieutenant and his werewolf Sergeant in the Marine Corps that is written in a straightforward and unembellished style. The author has achieved a sense of authenticity in the details of the postings in Afghanistan and the day to day life of a soldier in combat. The story follows Lieutenant Lucas as he takes up his new mission which includes learning to deal with having a second-in-command (Noah) who is a True-Alpha werewolf. Lucas needs to show Noah who's boss but in the process both of them form an ancient bond.As one other reviewer put it the story is all about the fighting and the sexual/instinctive urges caused by the bond but we learn little of who Lucas and Noah are outside of that. For that reason I think, the romance failed to capture me as much as it could have. Also the poor-communication trope went on too long but I enjoyed it enough that I will pick up the next book in the series.
