This was a recommendation from Dear Author and I can see why they liked it. The author avoids a lot of the usual pet peeves and tropes by writing about a mute virginal 'Beta' hero. The heroine is loyal and understanding and doesn't fall for any of the obvious ploys of the alternate 'evil' love interest. But the writing just plodded along slowly, with long-winded and repetitive internal monologues, cartoonish bad guys, and the occasional plot hole. It has that 'stream-of-consciousness' style of Kristin Ashley. Still it leaves you with a nice feeling.
